Horse Riding Lessons
Horse riding lessons are the ideal way to learn to ride, gain confidence or further your horse riding skills and knowledge and our team of professional, qualified instructors are keen to share their love and knowledge of horse riding with you.
All new students are given a riding assessment, and our experienced friendly instructors will be able to allocate students to a suitable group or design a personalised riding program.
Safe and enjoyable riding is our number one priority, and accordingly all of our friendly staff are happy to accommodate nervous beginners to more experienced riders. Glenworth Valley is a founding member of the Australian Horse Riding Centres Association which regulates safety standards for the horse riding industry.
Horse Riding Lesson Options
Private lessons are typically one-on-one with the instructor who provides individual instruction. Group lessons involve two or more riders of similar ability at the same time.
One of the most important aspects of learning is being able to practice what you have been taught. Group lessons provide an ideal environment to both learn from your instructor and to practice whilst under their supervision. Students often learn just as quickly from being told what to do by their instructor as they do from seeing other riders of similar ability develop.
Kids riding camps are run during school holidays, and offer a variety of learning experiences from half day camps for the younger children through to three day camps where the children ‘camp out’ under the stars in our luxury tents, all food and accommodation included.
Glenworth Valley is unique in that we have the flexibility to offer private or group lessons in an arena, out on a trail or a combination of both.
Glenworth Valley also sell lesson packages of 8 lessons. Block lessons are available at a discounted rate, and are paid in advance for the term.
What You Will Learn
Our lessons are provided in accordance with a training plan which amongst other things includes grooming, saddling, ground control, walking, trotting and cantering in harmony with the horse. As riders advance we will progress to leg yielding, riding on the bit and jumping. Various exercises and activities are also used to increase co-ordination and to let students experience the different types of riding disciplines that may interest them. We specialise in giving you individual attention and also have a variety of activities and classes designed especially for children.

On the day of your lesson be sure to arrive at Glenworth Valley with plenty of time to process your paperwork and collect your helmet from the lesson arena. As a minimum we suggest arriving 15 minutes prior to your lesson time. If you do arrive late, the price is the same and your lesson time will be cut short.
Helmets displaying ASA 3838 or equivalent are compulsory for all riders. We strongly recommend that each rider purchases a pair of correctly fitting riding boots for maximum safety. Jodhpurs are preferable however tights, tracksuit pants and to a lesser extent jeans are also fine.
The minimum age for private lessons is 5 years with the minimum age for group lessons being 7 years. We recommend children aged 5-7 years are booked in for 1/2 hour lessons only.
Group lessons will be split up into junior and adult. Adult generally refers to 15 years and above. Riders will also be graded into beginner, intermediate and competent. All new lesson students at Glenworth Valley must first have an assesment lesson before having a group lesson.
Rider Restrictions
Please be advised that all horse rides are subject to the availability of a suitable horse.
For safety and animal welfare reasons, Glenworth Valley has a maximum weight limit of 110kg.
Please be aware that our maximum weight limit may be lower than 110kgs and is subject to variation on a daily basis according to what horses are available for work on the day that you attend. In addition to a person's weight, whether we have a suitable horse available also depends upon a riders height to weight ratio, riding experience , general muscle tone and fitness levels.
As such, Glenworth Valley is unable to guarantee that a suitable horse will be available for you on the day of your ride.
